The Pertsinidis lab in the Structural Biology Program of the Sloan Kettering Institute at MSKCC has immediate openings for Postdoctoral positions. A major focus in our lab is developing cutting-edge single-molecule detection and superresolutionoptical imaging techniques. We further apply the tools we develop to visualize andunderstand some of the most fundamental biological processes that power cellular life. Forexample, our lab has developed modulation interferometry, a single-molecule localization-basedsuper-resolution technique with ~1-2 nm 3D precision and target-locking 3D nanoscopy, atechnique that achieved single-molecule detection in high background, crowded intracellularenvironments. The lab uncovers the biochemical, physical and cell biological principles that cells use to store lipids and to determine how lipid balance and storage are maintained. The lab also studies how processes of lipid storage affect physiology and disease. For our joint laboratory, we seek an outstanding individual with Ph.D. training in biochemistry, structural biology, cell biology or physiology to study the mechanistic basis of lipid storage in lipid droplets or lipid metabolism in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
