We are seeking to recruit outstanding Postdoctoral Fellows/Associates to join us in the Pertsinidis lab in the Structural Biology Program at Sloan Kettering Institute/MSKCC in New York City. Our lab develops cutting-edge single-molecule detection and super-resolution optical imaging techniques, and applies these tools to visualize and understand some of the most fundamental biological processes that power cellular life. Examples include modulation interferometry, a single-molecule localization-based super-resolution technique with 1-2 nm 3D precision and target-locking 3D nanoscopy, a technique that achieved single-molecule detection in high background, crowded intracellular environments. These tools have enabled some of the highest resolution single-molecule studies to date, providing new biological insights that could not be obtained before (e.g. Wang et al., Cell 2016; Li et al., Cell 2019). You will have the chance to become an important member of our vibrant, interdisciplinary team, comprising multiple physical and biological scientists. You will have the opportunity to break new grounds in optical imaging, in situ structural biology and biological discovery. Some current interests: 1) building the next-generation single-molecule techniques - to visualize biological processes in live cells with (sub)-millisecond temporal and (sub)-nanometer 3D spatial resolution;2) pushing the limits of extracting high-resolution information from weak signals in optically inhomogeneous, multi-cellular environments - tissue explants, 3D organoids and developing embryos;3) constructing novel single-molecule imaging-based discovery platforms, for both basic biology as well as important biomedical applications (drug discovery, cell-based therapeutics);4) developing new single-molecule imaging and machine learning technologies for in situ structural biology - to enable for the first time high-resolution structural studies inside cells. Requirements:- Desire to tackle outstanding challenges in optics, microscopy and/or single-molecule biology- PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Optics, Optical Engineering, Biophysics or a relevant scientific or engineering field.- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.Experience with single-molecule detection instrumentation and high/super-resolution optical imaging (e.g. STED/RESOLFT, 4Pi, MINFLUX, SIM, LLS/SPIM approaches, Adaptive Optics, etc.), as well as cryogenics and UHV technologies is preferred but not required. Strong computational skills (e.g. computer vision, deep learning) is a plus. Individuals with additional working knowledge in areas of biochemistry, molecular, cell and developmental biology and/or genetics are strongly encouraged to apply. If you have questions about this opportunity, please reach out to: Dr. Alexandros Pertsinidis(PertsinA@mskcc.org) Please include in this application a CV, names and contact information of three references, and a short description of scientific interests Salary Range: $61,150-$80,315#LI-Onsite

The Division of Supportive and Acute Care services is comprised of four services including RaDaR, Hospital Medicine, Supportive Care and Emergency Care Services that support patients across the cancer continuum. The Rapid Diagnosis, Early Detection and Risk Reduction (RaDaR) Service:The newly named service combines a Section of Geriatrics (currently four geriatricians and two geriatric nurse practitioners) with a Section of General Internal Medicine (currently five general internists and one family medicine physician). The overall aim is to support the non-oncologic medical management of people before, during, and after a diagnosis of cancer so that they may live well. The Service Chief will report to the Head of the Division of Supportive and Acute Care Services and will have programmatic oversight and responsibility for the Service and faculty. The Service Chief will work to shape the strategic and programmatic priorities for the Service. S/he will oversee the clinical operations, talent acquisition and retention, research, philanthropy, professional development, mentorship, and teaching.Faculty members provide medical care to persons across the lifespan who are at risk for or living with cancer or its complications in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The Service Chief support recruitment and professional development of faculty and development of programs that align with MSK’s strategic plan. The clinical, research and teaching mission of the RaDaR service is aligned around three workstreams:1. Early Detection and Diagnosis (DETECT): Responsibilities include oversight and direction of efficient cancer screening in high-risk populations including individuals with a cancer history, genetic risk or pre-malignant condition. This also includes coordination of rapid diagnostic evaluations for individuals with suspected but unconfirmed cancer diagnosis.2. Risk Reduction (PREPARE): Responsibilities include mitigation of risk for individuals whose medical histories or age may complicate cancer treatment. This includes peri-operative management and participation in treatment decision making based on a whole person perspective. In particular, geriatricians on the service support patients in partnership with their surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists to formulate treatment plans that minimize risk and align with patients’ goals.3. Survivorship (THRIVE): Responsibilities include supporting cancers in the survivorship phase who have complex medical needs. Most cancer survivors continue follow-up with their primary service (e.g., bone marrow transplant) or transition to primary care physicians in their local communities. However, select patients such asadult survivors of pediatric cancer can confront lifelong complex medical needs and benefit from management by internists with special expertise in cancer survivorship. The Rapid Diagnosis, Early Detection and Risk Reduction Service faculty partner with and support other physicians spanning multiple services in the Department of Medicine as well as other Departments at MSK including Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Psychiatry, Neurology, Anesthesia, Radiology, and Pathology, as well as with colleagues from Nursing and Social Work. Growth is expected in digital surveillance and blood-based screening and early detection for persons at high risk of cancer. There are innumerable opportunities for the successful candidate to partner with clinicians and researchers across MSK to investigate new strategies for efficient screening, surveillance, early detection and risk mitigation to reduce the harms of cancer and its treatment. There is opportunity to grow the research portfolio of this service which might include emphasis on implementation science to mitigate known risks for cancer and the complications that stem from treatment. Qualified candidates should be physicians with board-certification in geriatrics, internal medicine, or family medicine. The ideal candidate will have:•A vision for how the skills and talents of geriatricians and general internists can support MSK’s strategic plan in the realms of clinical care, research, education and community outreach.•National recognition as a program leader, educator, and/or a funded program of clinical, translational, or population science research in cancer screening, surveillance, diagnostics, risk mitigation, or survivorship;•Expertise in geriatrics, general internal medicine, or family medicine, and a track record that aligns with one or more of the service’s cores workstreams;•Eligibility for licensure in New York and New Jersey.Expected salary range is $375K - $450K for this role. Physician compensation is based on multiple variables.
