Job Description

The Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities (IHCD) Service within the the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences   works to address disparities in access to cancer screening and  treatment and other healthcare services at the local, national, and global levels. We use a cross-disciplinary, community-engaged approach. We identify key areas of need and provide health education and other services to immigrants and medically underserved communities.

We are seeking a Community Outreach Coordinator (COC) for IHCD’s Integrated Cancer Care Access Network (ICCAN) initiative, which includes a FOOD pantry initiative, case management, and telehealth navigation. ICCAN seeks to bridge the gap between immigrant and medically underserved communities   and the healthcare system with a focus on addressing the socio-economic determinants of health in our community service and our research programs. The COC plays a vital role in the ICCAN initiative. As an integral member of the team and in compliance with all regulatory, institutional, and departmental requirements, performs essential needs assessments, case management, data collection, and data entry, for community outreach projects, databases, and research protocols for the IHCD Service.

Role Overview:

  • Participate in outreach with  Mandarin/Cantonese speaking immigrant-serving health care facilities, community-based organizations, advocacy groups, ethnic media, and local government leaders
  • Manage 2-3 food pantry sites, conduct outreach at our food pantry locations throughout NYC  
  • Provide case management through our Essential Needs Assessment to patients
  • Support our Access to Telehealth (AcT) project by providing telehealth navigation and education to AcT participants
  • Assist with the creation of monthly reports of outreach, research, and educational activities
  • Attend training programs, modules, workshops, seminars, disease-specific meetings, and meetings to keep up to date on project objectives and new policies/procedures for conducting Community Outreach / human subjects’ research, when directed by the supervisor
  • Ensure that the consent/research authorization documents are signed and maintained as per protocol/department/service/MSK/agency policies.
  • Maintain positive relationships with community groups and community leaders by supporting local initiatives and events and growing outreach
  • Participate in community events for  Mandarin/Cantonese  -speaking communities and other immigrant communities
  • Work on special projects and/or research initiatives including special requests for the Research Council, IRB, Office of Clinical Research, or any regulatory compliance projects

 

Key Qualification:

  • Fluency in   Mandarin/Cantonese required
  • 2 years of experience working in or with community-based outreach or research with a focus on service and research health-related programs strongly preferred
  • Proven interest in health disparities; knowledge of immigrant communities
  • Strong program management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of SPSS a plus
  • Willingness to travel to food pantry and recruitment sites across Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx as needed

Additional Information:  

  • Schedule; Full-time hybrid Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. Flexibility Required
  • Location: 663 3rd Ave 4th floor
  • Report to Associate Director, Immigrant Health & Cancer Disparities

Pay Range $26.21-$39.24
