Job Description

Located in New York City, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is one of the world’s premier cancer centers, dedicated to the treatment and control of cancer, the advancement of biomedical knowledge through research, and the training of physicians, scientists, and physician scientists to decrease the burden of malignant disease on a global scale. MSK has made sustained investments that endow it with talented faculty, trainees, and facilities.  

 

MSK’s Department of Medicine is seeking an exceptional physician investigator and inspirational leader to serve as Head of the Division of Subspecialty Medicine.

Role Overview:

The Division is comprised of eight services and approximately 100 faculty members. Direct reports include Service Chiefs of the Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology/Nutrition/Hepatology, Infectious Diseases, Pulmonary, and Renal services. These faculty deliver care in New York City as well as across MSK’s network that extends from Southern New Jersey to Eastern Long Island. The Division provides primary and consultative medical care. Faculty members are internationally recognized for their work in management of the side effects of cancer and strategies used to treat it as well as in prevention, early detection, diagnosis, risk mitigation, and survivorship. Faculty members include physicians as well as physician scientists with both wet and dry laboratory-based research programs.

 

The Division Head will have programmatic oversight and responsibility for the Subspecialty Medicine Service Chiefs and their Services. S/he will work with these leaders to shape the clinical, scientific, strategic and programmatic priorities for the Division, and will foster clinical, and scientific excellence, talent acquisition and retention, the clinical trial portfolio, grant funding, professional development, mentorship and teaching. S/he will report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine but will partner with 3 other Division Heads in the Department of Medicine and an array of MSK’s senior leaders in the research, clinical and administrative realms. S/he will work to support MSK’s multidsiplinary management teams that unite surgeons, medical specialists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and others to support world class care and research for patients with cancer.  

 

The ideal candidate for this key institutional leadership role is a practicing physician with a vibrant and innovative research program in any of the subspecialty medicine disciplines who also has leadership skills and is able to set and share a strategic vision, inspire teams, and partner across disciplinary boundaries. The Division Head will serve as a key leader at MSK to chart the future course as the organization embraces contemporary challenges facing medicine and works to reduce the burden of malignant disease on a global scale.

Salary Range:  $600K-$800K

Physician compensation is based on multiple variables. This range represents annual salary only and does not include supplemental performance-based pay or any one-time payments.
