Job Description

Principal Portfolio Manager  

 

Exciting Opportunity at MSK Are you passionate about shaping the future of technology and healthcare? Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) is looking for an innovative and dynamic Principal Portfolio Manager to join our team. The Portfolio Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and execution of MSK’s project portfolio. This role will drive alignment between the portfolio and MSK’s strategic goals, optimize technology expenses, and foster a collaborative environment among technical teams and project managers. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in IT operations, project management, and Agile methodologies, along with strong executive communication skills. 

 

Position Overview

  • Strategic Alignment: Guide the portfolio management strategy to ensure it aligns with MSK’s strategic goals. 
  • Portfolio Management: Contribute significantly to planning, prioritization, and implementation of the portfolio to meet evolving business needs. 
  • Value Optimization: Refine processes and resources allocation to optimize technology expenses and achieve significant savings. 
  • Financial Management: Improve budget accuracy, renegotiate contracts, and achieve measurable annual savings. 
  • Collaboration: Foster collaboration and communication between delivery teams and managers through collaborative forums and proactive engagement. 
  • Agile Methodology: Apply Agile methodologies to enhance project execution, continuously improve portfolio performance, and governance practices. 
  • Strategic Investment: Work with leadership to transform innovative ideas into strategic investments that support MSK’s mission and long-term goals. 
  • Risk Management: Analyze potential risks in investment decisions and implement effective risk management strategies. 
  • Stakeholder Management: Facilitate meetings with DigITs and business executives, ensuring effective communication, decision-making assistance, and alignment on priorities. 
  • Process Improvement: Improve investment processes and systems to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness. 

Key Qualifications: 

  • Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to present complex information to senior leadership.  
  • Proven experience in IT operations, project and program management, and client relations. 
  • Strong skills in negotiation, teamwork, and presentations, with the ability to influence at all levels. 
  • Strong experience with Agile methodologies and frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban). 
  • Proficiency in managing portfolios, ensuring effective IT governance, and developing strategic plans. 
  • Proven success in establishing and managing a Project Management Office (PMO). 
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams with empathy and business insight. 

Core Skills: 

  • 7+ years of experience in transforming new ideas into profitable business ventures. 
  • An in-depth understanding of both business and technical discussions. 
  • Superb relationship building skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal skills. 
  • The capability and expertise to mentor others. 

Additional Information: 

  • Location: 633 Third Avenue 
  • Reporting to the Senior Director, Portfolio Planning & Delivery 
  • Hybrid Schedule: Onsite on Wednesdays & Thursdays for collaborative meetings 

Pay Range: $146,100 - $241,100.
