Director, Research Informatics Systems

Role Overview

  • Develop and execute a forward-looking strategy for research informatics to meet MSK’s research goals.
  • Lead and inspire the research informatics systems team, cultivating a collaborative, innovative, and growth-oriented environment.
  • Build strong internal and external partnerships to champion informatics initiatives.
  • Oversee the design, development, and integration of advanced informatics systems, aligning them with researchers' needs and organizational objectives.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies to enhance capabilities, supporting innovative research.
  • Ensure systems are scalable, secure, and compliant with regulatory standards, implementing data security protocols to protect sensitive information.
  • Develop policies for data integrity, confidentiality, and availability; enforce best practices for data stewardship and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure research data is accurately annotated, stored and accessible.
  • Collaborate with scientists, core facilities, and multidisciplinary teams to develop impactful projects, support data sharing, and ensure project alignment with organizational goals.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in informatics, data management, or a related, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Progressive administrative experience in library or information sciences in a biomedical setting.
  • Experience in bioinformatics, computer science, information technology is a plus.
  • Proven experience in the development and management of informatics systems in an academic or research environment.
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, including data security, FAIR, curation, and stewardship.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to build, inspire and motivate a diverse team.

Core Skills:

  • Ability to create and implement a comprehensive strategy for research informatics systems, aligning with organizational research goals.
  • Proven experience building and leading teams, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and supportive work culture.
  • Expertise in overseeing multiple, complex projects with cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and timely delivery.
  • Strong communication skills to establish and maintain partnerships across departments and with external collaborators.
  • Knowledge of research informatics, scientific software, and data management technologies, with experience integrating complex systems.
  • Skilled in managing data lifecycle, including curation, annotation, storage, and accessibility.
  • In-depth understanding of data security practices, regulatory standards, and legal compliance in handling research.

Additional Information:

  • This role is based at MSK’s 633 Third Avenue location.
  • Schedule: Full Time, Hybrid onsite 1-2 days a week
  • Reporting to the Chief Research Informatics Officer

Pay Range: $193,800 - $329,500
