Job Description

The Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) core enables basic, clinical, and translational science by providing a broad range of genomic services and expertise to clinicians and scientists at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. IGO is the central point of contact for all research sequencing activities at MSKCC, producing a 1-2 TB of genomic data per day and processing over 40,000 samples yearly!

 

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Software Engineer III to join IGO’s Data Team. Our team writes the software that is used throughout the lab and at every step of sample processing from sample receiving to fastq/pipeline delivery including tracking every aliquot in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) on to post-sequencing NGS data generation from BCL to fastq to BAM files, and finally to automating and analyze sequencing data using established pipelines. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from diverse professional backgrounds. Your combined technical expertise and communication skills will directly impact IGO's products and customers!

 

Our team follows a four-day work week onsite with offices directly across the hall from the sequencing lab, so we can collaborate easily with our customers.

 

You will:

  • Build user-friendly web applications using JavaScript with React and Node.js
  • Build fast, stable and efficient delivery pipelines
  • Update LIMS workflows to match the lab’s practices and data tracking needs
  • Use continuous delivery practices to deliver high-quality code
  • Clearly communicate project challenges and progress
  • Ensure code is readable, maintainable, and stable through implementation of unit and end-to-end tests
  • Follow programming best practices and work collaboratively in-person and through GitHub

You are:

  • An excellent communicator, capable of gathering requirements from and explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • A self-motivated, strong problem solver who can handle a fast-paced environment
  • Someone who enjoys working collaboratively yet can operate independently
  • Interested in learning biological and genetics subjects for an effective communication with lab members and building better applications

You have:

  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • Experience working with two or more development languages including (JavaScript, Java or Python)
  • Experience with relational databases and/or non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB)

 

Pay Range $118,800.00-$196,200.00
