MSK requires all new hires, volunteers, and vendors who come onsite to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. This is based on the COVID-19 vaccines’ high level of protection and our shared responsibility in protecting our patients. 

 

Beginning on February 21, 2022, MSK will require all new hires, volunteers, and vendors who come onsite to provide proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination series + booster (once eligible). Individuals currently eligible for a COVID-19 booster must get their booster, or have an approved exemption as a condition of employment at MSK. Individuals can get their COVID-19 booster 5 months after receiving their second dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, or 2 months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Individuals who are not yet eligible for a booster must meet this criteria within 30 days of becoming eligible.

Job Description

The Research Animal Resource Center (RARC) is a component of the Center of Comparative Medicine and Pathology. We provide staff and facilities to effect the humane care and use of animals used in research and instructing at MSKCC. We are currently seeking a Veterinary Technician who will provide health care to laboratory animals maintained at MSKCC and occasionally Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) by evaluating cases and implementing treatment in consultation with the veterinary staff. You will:

  • Perform rounds and supervise animals to assess compliance and animal health and well-being.
  • Evaluate and assess common disease conditions and reports problems.
  • Coordinate clinical treatment, collect diagnostic and environmental samples, and coordinate euthanasia.
  • Perform or assist with routine quarantine procedures on primates, dogs, cats, farm animals and rodents, including physical exam, blood collection, TB tests and collecting samples for ectoparasite examinations, and rectal cultures.
  • Participate in the rodent sentinel health surveillance program
  • Prepare the operating room for procedures, including preparation and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies. Assist veterinarians and investigators in surgical procedures and in the pre- and post-operative care of laboratory animals.
  • Coordinate the Veterinary Services pharmacy and dispenses supplies, medication and controlled substances to investigators. Compile reports for funding and regulatory agencies.

You need!

  • Associates Degree / Certified Vocational Training in Veterinary Science, Veterinary Technology, or Animal Health Science OR Bachelor's Degree in Life or Natural Sciences.
  • AALAS certification at a minimum of the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the use of various monitoring modalities and anesthesia equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and familiarity with Microsoft Suite.
  • Detail oriented and superb organization skills with excellent interpersonal skills.
