    Cytogenetic Technologist - Microarray Team with FISH and Karyotype Experience

     

    The Cytogenetics Lab located at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking a Cytogenetic Technologist, performing state of the art molecular technologies to discover novel genetic and clinically useful molecular biomarkers. 

     

    The Cytogenetic Technologist will be part of the Microarray Team, responsible for performing several microarray testing protocols on various tumor sample types. The position requires wet-bench lab experience and understanding of molecular cytogenetics, as well as microarray data analysis and subsequent interpretation of copy number and allelic imbalances. Rotation through the FISH and Karyotype benches in the Cytogenetics laboratory on a routine basis is also required. 


    You will:

    • Perform SNP-array testing and analysis using Cytoscan and Oncoscan platforms (Affymetrix) as well as aCGH (Agilent).
    • Analyze microarray data using CHAS and Nexus software and report clinically significant findings.
    • Triage cases for which array testing had been requested and communicate with Laboratory Directors and clinicians when necessary.
    • Be proficient in operating and maintaining microarray hardware and analysis software.
    • Work with a team of microarray technologists as well as collaborate with the main Cytogenetics laboratory to ensure accurate and timely reporting of array results.
    • Review all test requests thoroughly for errors, omissions, clarity, and potential problems.
    • Must follow unidirectional flow of specimen handling to avoid contamination.
    • Help maintain commonly used equipment. Resolve minor equipment problems and operate equipment carefully and according to procedures.
    • Perform necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality control on equipment per laboratory guidelines, as assigned. Assure equipment and instruments meet performance standards and record results.
    • Perform routine FISH and Karyotype procedures including benchwork and analysis.
    • Comply with clinical genetic testing regulatory agencies and proficiency programs (CAP, CLIA, NYS Department of Health).

    You have:

    • BS in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related life sciences field with experience working in a Cytogenetics laboratory with 1 year of chromosomal microarray (SNP-Array and/or aCGH)
    • Prior experience in FISH and Karyotype procedures and analysis is preferred.
    • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License Required, or ASCP Certification, eligible for NYS Technologist License
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and efficiently are essential
    • Ability to multitask, along with an orientation toward teamwork and leadership
    • Strong creative thinking and problem solving skills
