    Job Description

    Under Patient Revenue, the Admissions Center serves an integral role for MSK, operating 24/7, 365 days a year, it oversees patient flow & bed utilization of 498 inpatient beds, including the administrative and financial coordination surrounding each admission. We are seeking a Supervisor to join our team to oversee the day-to-day operations and staff responsible for bed assignment. The supervisor will lead a team focused on continuous operational improvement and the highest quality service for our patients. In this role, you will have an opportunity to impact the center on large scale and interface with virtually all clinical, financial and supporting services at MSK.


    You Will: 

    • Oversee daily patient flow activities, including UCC/PACU transfers, internal, and external transfers, while ensuring adherence to Operational Excellence and Departmental goals.
    • Collaborate and work closely with Nursing, Support Services, Clinical Departments, Clinical/Revenue IT, Pathology, Hospital Administration and others to ensure appropriate flow of patients, operational efficiency and resources.
    • Communicate with various levels of leadership to provide key census information and alerts on a routine basis.
    • Use key performance indicators to manage operations; make and implement recommendations for continuous performance improvement efforts.
    • Interact with various management teams and clinical leadership to initiate and collaborate on projects that will effect operational workflows.  
    • Manage staff scheduling, continuously analyzing and optimizing shift scheduling and responsibilities in a fast-changing environment; being aware of staffing levels at all times to ensure adequate coverage for a 24/7 operation.
    • Monitor and evaluate individual employee performance, handling performance appraisals and ongoing staff development.
    • Be a point of contact in times of escalation, needed to efficiently and effectively provide quick solutions to issues that impact patient experience and care coordination.
    • Lead team meetings and ensure staff engagement in process improvement activities by discussing meaningful topics, providing and solicitating ongoing and continuous feedback, and empowering them to be part of the solution.
    • Ensure the staff remain compliant with all hospital policies and regulations, providing relevant updates internally and to other departments/teams; ensure adequate and through documentation.  
    • Maintain awareness and assist in overseeing financial control over the collections and refunds of inpatient co-pay and private room payments.
    • Handle and manage sensitive admissions and assignments in coordination with Patient Representatives, Hospital Administration, International Center, etc.
    • Maintain all employee records & time keeping, while monitoring records to ascertain possible problems in absenteeism or productivity.
    • Learn and maintain knowledge of registration/intake processes, systems, & insurance to better understand how each of these directly impacts hospital operations.

    You Have: 

    • At least 3 years of progressive experience in a hospital setting; preferably in a clinical environment.
    • Flexibility to work some weekends/evenings; be on-call after hours and overnight.
    • Excellent judgment and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience in identifying and working on process improvement projects that may involve multiple IT systems.
    • Experience in resolving conflict and deescalating challenging situations.
    • Fluid understanding of Microsoft office, including Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
    • Non-MSK Employees: Supervisory experience (5 or more) strongly preferred.
    • MSK Employees: At least one year in a Group or Practice Leader/Patient Access Coordinator/Physician Office Specialist/equivalent or higher role strongly preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
