    Job Description

We are seeking a candidate to join the Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) as a Research Assistant.  IGO specializes in high throughput genomics technologies, including a variety of sequencing platforms, and coordinates with other groups in the Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) to provide investigators with a full range of genomic services.  Our process is fully inclusive: we assist investigators with phenotypic characterization of tissues and macro dissection of specimens, and extract DNA and RNA from a wide variety of sources (single cells, FFPE and fresh frozen sample, buccal swab, circulating free DNA, etc.) to support basic, translational and clinical research.

As a Research Assistant – Sequencing Team, you will:

    • Act as a subject matter expert for sequencing technology, including, but not limited to, all Illumina Sequencing Platforms currently on the market, and Fragment Analysis (Sanger, STR and MSI) on Applied Biosystems technologies.
    • Work with the group leader to establish daily goals and priority lists for all Sequencing Team members
    • Integrate fully with the entire IGO Core Lab to understand the full breadth of work and aligning the Sequencing Team goals to the larger IGO goals.
    • Utilize the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) effectively to ensure data records are clear and consistent.
    • Actively measure quality of data and proactively contribute to troubleshooting and root cause analysis measures as deviations or out-of-bounds exceptions occur.
    • Work on the cutting edge of the genomics world bringing new technologies and platforms online smoothly and efficiently.

    You are:

    • Interested in becoming part of a fast-growing team in a genomics core lab.
    • An enthusiastic researcher organized and detail-oriented.
    • Able to work independently while working in a large team.
    • Someone who can handle a very fast paced environment and the pressure associated with deadlines.
    • An outstanding communicator and critical thinker.

    You have:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological, Chemistry, or Science related field with at least years of relevant full-time experience or a Master’s degree with 3years full-time relevant experience.
    • Prior hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology is required.
    • Previous exposure to LIMS systems preferred. #LI-POST
