    Job Description

    The Hematology Oncology Tissue Bank (HOTB) is a centralized, comprehensive facility for research involving human biological specimens; the facility provides appropriate specimens from patients with hematologic malignancies for investigator-based experimentation. The HOTB also implements stringent quality control standards to ensure consistent, valid services for investigators using the shared resource. The HOTB is designed to facilitate and optimize research use of human biological specimen samples and provide access to related clinical data for research purposes. The HOTB is seeking a talented Laboratory Manager.


    You will:

    • Supervise lab techs in daily routine lab activities. Oversee technician assignments and conduct of research.
    • Maintain quality checks on safety of laboratories, including biohazards and insure maintenance of the facilities according to Good Laboratory Practices. Oversee the installation and maintains laboratory equipment in compliance with federal regulations.
    • Advise on technical procedures, techniques and equipment, and maintain conformance with specific operational standards.
    • Monitor laboratory supplies and services operating budget.
    • Monitor ordering activities to insure accurate and timely order placement. Approves bill for payment.
    • Coordinate scientific collaborations with laboratories within and outside of MSK. Ensure that reagents and samples are sent to other laboratories in a complete and timely fashion, adhering to regulations that govern the shipment of hazardous substances.
    • Prepare and monitors orders placed with Institute core facilities to insure service are provided on a timely basis.
    • Assist in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations. Compile and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Recommend and approve purchases of major capital equipment. Work directly with research fund managers to evaluate monthly laboratory expenses and adjust budgets appropriately.
    • Develop budgets, may negotiate pricing with vendors. In collaboration with Research Fund Manager, manage funds and follow up on outstanding receipts.
    • Conduct preliminary interviews for research technical positions.
    • Document corrective action and keeps personnel files up to date based on SKI policies and procedures.
    • Support the PI in the performance evaluation process of staff.
    • Monitor employee attendance/vacation requests to complete bimonthly time sheets. Provides feedback according to the Center’s Attendance Policy.
    • Respond to employee questions and provides guidance on how to proceed. As requested and under the supervision of the Program Manager, develops initial orientation and training schedules prior to the arrival of new employees and notifies/instructs appropriate staff of responsibilities in the process.


    You need:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required (Science degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.); 7-10 years exp. Previous experience in laboratory operations, strong background in immunology preferred. #LI-SB1
