    We are currently seeking a candidate to join the Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) as an Automation Engineer. IGO specializes in high throughput genomics technologies, including a variety of sequencing platforms, and coordinates with other groups in the Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) to provide investigators with a full range of genomic services. IGO is highly automated and follows a Lean laboratory approach. Our process is fully inclusive: we assist investigators with phenotypic characterization of tissues and macro dissection of specimens, and extract DNA and RNA from a wide variety of sources (single cells, FFPE and fresh frozen sample, buccal swab, circulating free DNA, etc.) to support basic, translational and clinical research. Ultimately, the focus of our work is to help establish the basis of cancer pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment at MSKCC. The candidate will join the Robotics team

     

    As an Automation Engineer, you will:

     

    Develop, test and implement automated assays in both 96 and 384 plates.

    Train lab members to run robotic methods and help troubleshoot issues when they arise.

    Perform routine QC on equipment for precision and accuracy testing.

    Work closely with all staff in IGO to increase throughput and efficiency.

    Maintain a Lean Workflow for all processes

    Collaborate with Bioinformatics to integrate automated laboratory solutions into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

    Evaluate new equipment and automated methodologies as they arise.

    Communicate with vendor technical support and sales representatives if necessary

    You have:

     

    A Bachelor’s Degree in a Science related field with at least years of relevant full-time experience or a Master’s degree with 5 years full-time relevant experience. 

    Knowledge and expertise in automation scripts for liquid handling equipment is a must. Preferable experience with Hamilton and Beckman equipment.

    Knowledge of basic NextGen Sequencing workflows preferred.

    Previous exposure to a LIMS systems is preferred.
