    Job Description

    The Admissions Center is operational 24/7 & 365 days a year and serves as a critical hub for all inpatient activity, managing patient flow for all inpatient beds across the center. The Admissions Bed Coordinator plays a critical role in this high functioning department and is responsible for facilitating patient flow through the bed assignment process. The Admissions Bed Coordinator will also work closely with all levels of clinical staff and management and is critical in maintaining efficient throughput of inpatients within the Center.

    You Will:

    • Prioritize and determine appropriate bed assignment based on urgency of request using an electronic bed board
    • Lead and drive, along with a nurse leader, two daily huddles to expedite discharges and bed assignment
    • Review inbox and pre-admit lists to process UCC and PACU bed requests\
    • Review and process pending internal transfers and anticipated discharges while taking into account bed availability
    • Track bed assignments until patient occupies the bed and call nursing units to follow up on assigned clean beds that have not been occupied after 30 minutes
    • Monitor EVS and escort response time to ensure efficient patient flow
    • Elevate difficult placement decisions and capacity issues to Supervisor or Charge Nurse
    • Communicate with Charge Nurse regarding cancelled discharges, cancelled requests and updated anticipated discharges
    • Work closely with clinicians to process direct admissions and external transfers; obtain patient information to register admissions
    • Confirm outstanding inpatient bed requests to cancel or update admission requests
    • Monitor UCC volume and surgery schedule to track patient status changes and estimated arrivals
    • Receive blocked bed information from various departments and update bed management schedule appropriately. Track blocked beds by documenting closure reasons and escalating if request is unreasonable
    • View next day’s pre-admissions to anticipate the amount and location of beds needed


    You Have:

    • High School Diploma. Bachelors Preferred. 2-4 years of relevant experience in a comparable role.
    • Requires excellent attention to detail, strong decision making and verbal communication skills.
    • Problem solving and decision making skills, ability to handle high degree of pressure, heavy workloads, multiple requests, numerous interruptions and short deadlines in a positive manner.
    • Ability to work without considerable direction, exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to obtain results.
    • Exert significant latitude in determining objectives of assignment and take calculated risks with consultation from an expert.

    12-hour shifts, 7AM – 7PM. Weekdays and every other weekend with flexibility.
