    Job Description

    The Diagnostic Molecular Pathology (DMP) Lab located at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is expanding and seeking a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Molecular Laboratory Technologist.  

     

     

     

    As aTechnologist you will:

    • Perform and maintain competency in complex Next Generation Sequencing assays/tasks according to established operational procedures under supervision.
    • Perform genetic and molecular biology laboratory procedures involving traditional techniques such as PCR, isolation of DNA and RNA from tumor specimens, DNA Fragment Analysis, DNA sequencing, RT-PCR, Real-Time PCR, and other molecular techniquesOperate and maintain laboratory automation equipment per established operating procedures.
    • Operate equipment carefully and according to procedures.
    • Perform necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality control on equipment per laboratory guidelines, as assigned.
    • Assure equipment and instruments meet performance standards.
    • Maintain QC related documents.
    • Assure the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory’s Quality Control Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Maintain complete documentation for assay tracking and results for review/reporting.
    • Participate in the Proficiency Testing Program as assigned.
    • Complete the performance of proficiency testing in assigned laboratory sections.
    • Review all test requests thoroughly for errors, omissions, clarity, and potential problems.
    • Verifiy patient identification at all steps of every procedure and maintain complete accuracy.
    • Follow unidirectional flow of specimen handling to avoid contamination.
    • Notify supervisor of discrepancies and records corrective action taken.
    • Help maintain commonly used equipment and resolve minor equipment problems. Troubleshoot instrument related issues as they occur.

    You Need:

    • BS in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field with experience working in a Cytogenetics laboratory. Master’s degree preferred.
    • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License Required.
    • Experience in next-generation sequencing library preparation and sample quality control.
    • Proficient in using, and able to maintain highly complex laboratory equipment like Automated library preparation instruments, various Next Generation Sequencing equipment and quality control instrumentation.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and efficiently are essential.
    • Ability to multitask, along with an orientation toward teamwork and leadership.
    • Strong creative thinking and problem solving skills.

    Hours:

    • 37.5 hours per week. 
    • 2pm to 10pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
