    Job Description

    We are:

    The Cellular Immunology Laboratory performs a series of assays on various cellular components of the immune system. The assays consist of lymphocyte proliferation by mitogens and antigens, natural killer cell activity, immunophenotyping of lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, bone marrow, peripheral blood progenitor/stem cells, cord blood and leukapheresis products. These studies are relevant in the diagnosis of immunodeficiency disorders and in monitoring the effect of therapy on several groups of patients, including those receiving bone marrow transplants or biologic response modifiers.

    We are seeking a new Manager for our Cellular Immunology Laboratory. Testing conducted in this laboratory includes lymphocyte proliferation assay, natural killer cell assay, and flow cytometric immunophenotyping.




    You will:

    • Manage a team of approximately 20 staff, including taking responsibility for recruitment, performance appraisals and education of the team. 
    • Work closely with the supervisor to assure adequate staffing and educational opportunities for the team.
    • Be responsible for preparing and managing the lab budget, covering equipment, supplies and staffing. 
    • Collaborate with other departmental managers to create and implement department-wide initiatives. 
    • Review validations and SOPs. 
    • Act as the escalation point for the team when difficult samples require review. 
    • Ensure the lab remains compliant with safety standards, legal regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements.

    You are:

    • A strong, assertive leader who is able to motivate and inspire a high performing team. 
    • Someone who excels at managing multiple projects within dynamic, changing settings.
    • Highly skilled in flow cytometry.

    You have:

    • Bachelor’s degree required (Biology, Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences preferred); Master’s degree preferred. 
    • 10+ years managing or supervising in a clinical lab setting. 
    • 2+ years’ experience in flow cytometry. 
    • A current New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or ASCP certification with eligibility to apply for a NY license. 
    • Strong experience in formulating and managing budgets. #LI-GS1
