Job Description

As part of the Engineering Design and Standards group, the Construction Engineer (CE) provides engineering design expertise to Project Teams. The healthcare environment is large and multifaceted with complex engineering systems. It is essential that the systems are methodically and systematically planned and designed within prescribed standards and code parameters. Additionally, large and complex infrastructure projects must be integrated seamlessly into existing systems which require expert design, review and cost analysis decisions. Therefore, the CE directs Design Consultants, advises Project Teams and Plant Operations regarding all Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) systems for infrastructure, renovations and new construction.

 

You Will Also:

  • Ensure sound engineering, design, and implementation of MSK’s D+C Standards for all construction projects, including energy efficiencies of Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) systems, mechanical and structural integrity, environmental systems, and impact on the existing systems and plant.
  • Prepare technical reports for routine inspections and / or operation and performance problems of newly installed MEP systems and equipment. Be accountable for the official acceptances of these new systems on behalf of MSK.
  • Manage all project activities for assigned capital projects (<$10 millions per year) and is responsible for budget development and management (cash flow, budget, schedules, and timelines tracking, etc.). Prepare and reviews/approves contracts (with CM’s, consultants, vendors, etc.) and other documents.
  • Interact with engineering consultants on a daily basis during design and construction of all projects for the compliance of institution’s design standards and applicable codes.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications for each project as prepared by engineering consultants to ensure quality of the construction documents.
  • During the design process, interact with Plant Operation and Shops for their input to keep the design in consistence with the existing systems, ensures that the construction documents are reviewed by the PO’s and the Shop, and obtain their sign offs.
  • Assist CM’s and MEP trade contractors during construction to resolve any field coordination issues to ensure proper maintenance accessibility to all new equipment. Interact with outside and in-house architects for the coordinations of MEP work.

 

You Need:

  • Bachelor’s level degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Civil)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • LEED Certification preferred
  • 4-7 years experience in design and construction of complex MEP support systems in healthcare field.
  • In depth knowledge of hospital MEP systems: HVAC systems, electrical systems including fire alarm and emergency power generating systems, plumbing and fire protection systems, medical gas systems including bulk, clinical vacuum systems and compressed air system.
  • Knowledge of LAB systems, clean rooms, hot/cold rooms, and fume hood exhaust systems.
  • Knowledge of New York City Building Code, New York State Codes, New York State Energy Code, NFPA, FGI Guidelines and other MEP and building standards and codes.
