As one of the world's premier cancer centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is committed to the progressive control and cure of cancer through programs of patient care, research and education. As such, our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department plays a vital role in supporting that mission through the implementation of programs that continuously strive to exceed and set industry standards as well as enhance the safety culture. EHS is responsible for enterprise wide environmental health and safety services, including Fire and Life Safety, Emergency Management, Construction Safety, Hazardous Material and Waste Management, Laboratory Safety, Occupational Safety, Healthcare Safety, Environmental Compliance and Ergonomics. MSK is seeking a proven leader who can be part of a dynamic and growing organization.

 

As a Construction Safety Manager, you will:

  • Manage construction safety at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) construction sites by recognizing, evaluating and controlling workplace conditions that could cause employee, patient or visitor injury or illness.
  • Develop and implement control methods, procedures and programs to eliminate or reduce unsafe conditions at these sites.
  • Conduct compliance and risk assessments, and develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Provide training in compliance with applicable OSHA, healthcare, and other safety regulations.
  • Investigate incidents for systemic trends and develops corrective action plans to prevent and reduce incident occurrences.
  • Assess current programs to identify new performance goals, strategies, and metrics.
  • Work closely with project managers, construction contractors, building occupants, administrators, and other EHS staff to implement construction safety programs.

You have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or other safety-related area plus at least 7 years of relevant experience (Construction Safety Management experience, including the development of programs).
  • Specific knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910 and 1926), Life Safety Code, other related NFPA standards and New York City Building and Fire Codes.
  • Construction Safety experience in a Healthcare Setting, including Joint Commission, Department of Health and CMS requirements strongly preferred.
  • Highly service oriented with strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills necessary to generate professional reports and effectively liaison with regulatory agencies, including the ability to develop and deliver concise documentation, presentations and trainings. Ability to organize and lead effective meetings.
  • Competent in the use of computers including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and email internet programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of position requirements and demonstrated ability to organize, track, and prioritize work responsibilities and regulatory deadlines.
  • Ability to develop effective performance goals, strategies, metrics, and inservice training programs relating programs of responsibility.
  • Ability to act decisively when responding to emergency situations.
  • Capable of working independently and as a team member to develop and implement programs with EHS staff and MSK departments.
