    Job Description

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) is seeking an Assistant Research Biostatistician with a master’s degree in applied statistics, measurement & evaluation, biostatistics, quantitative psychology, public health, psychometrics or other behavioral/social sciences, indicative of a strong quantitative foundation. Applicants should have a broad knowledge in one or more applied statistical methods commonly used in behavioral sciences, including multiple regression, ANOVA, hierarchical linear modeling, nonparametric techniques, missing data imputation, and statistical power analysis. Proficiency in popular statistical computer packages such as SAS, SPSS, and/or Stata is required. Proficiency in programming the R statistical language is desirable. Familiarity with psychometric techniques is desirable, such as structural equation modeling, item analysis and scale development (factor analysis, item response theory). Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. It is essential that the candidate be ready to participate in planning for grants and proposals, and to effectively communicate scientific ideas, methods, and results. A record of publications and successful collaborations on extramural research grant proposals is a plus.

The successful candidate will join a strong and growing team of statistical analysts collaborating with colleagues on a wide variety of population-based, behavioral science, psychiatric, methodological, and community-based, research projects related to cancer prevention and control research. The department provides an unusually rich opportunity for collegial interaction, and an exceptional infrastructure for behavioral and methodological research. Specialized research areas include health-related quality of life, adaptation to cancer survivorship, psychological interventions for cancer patients and their families, neurocognitive sequelae of cancer treatment, palliative care, treatment decision making and adherence, cancer screening, provider-patient communication, health disparities, tobacco cessation and other health behavior change interventions.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. MSKCC provides excellent benefits including tuition reimbursement for eligible employees.
